History

Albany (GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

Chartered on May 21, 1983

"With Intentional hearts and ready hands, we rebuild in grace, guided by legacy,

linked in friendship, service and purpose "

The Albany (GA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated was formally the Albany Community Service League, organized in 1980 after a group of local service and civic minded women met at the home of Dr. Josephine Davis to discuss how their shared compassion could render service to the Albany, GA and contiguous communities. These service-driven women envisioned an organization with a mission based on the ideals of combining friendship and community service: Mrs. Constance Adams, Dr. Josephine Davis, Mrs. Suzanne Gordon, Dr. Brenda Hodges-Tiller, Mrs. Brenda Hubbard, Dr. L. Patricia Johnson and Mrs. Mona Parker. Following several meetings and visionary discussions, the women recruited sixteen other women to become involved in an organization that focused on addressing some of the educational, civic and cultural needs of Albany, Georgia and its surrounding communities.

In preparation for acceptance into The Links Incorporated, the Albany Community Service League spent the next three years engaged in services to the community in the areas of the arts, human rights, senior citizen concerns, family life, minority concerns, services to the youth and aiding and assisting other local organizations in achieving specified goals and objectives.
